The one you pick really comes down to whether you need to blast the surface of something or soak the heat deep inside.
The Tech Side of Things
Let’s talk quartz first. These have a tungsten filament tucked inside high-purity silica. We use silica because it can take a beating from extreme heat without melting. The cool part? They emit short-wave infrared. Instead of wasting time heating up all the air in the room, the heat shoots straight to your target. It’s direct. It’s efficient. Then you’ve got carbon fiber. We wrap these filaments in a protective sleeve to keep the heat spread out evenly. These are great for things like saunas or low-pressure drying. They don’t get as scorching hot on the surface as quartz does, but they give you a steady, long-wave glow that just feels more consistent.
Getting Them Installed
You’ll see these lamps with a few different connectors depending on what your machine looks like. Most industrial ovens use R7s or Sk15 bases, so you can usually just pop a new one in without a headache. We make sure these connectors can handle a heavy current so you don’t have to worry about your sockets melting. But here is the thing:watch your power. Your wattage and voltage have to be a perfect match. If you plug a low-voltage lamp into a 400V system, it’ll pop instantly. On the flip side, if you under-power it, you’ll get weak heat and your cycle times will drag on forever.
Real-World Use
Whether you’re blowing PET bottles, curing paint, or just drying parts, the choice matters. If you need to ramp up the heat now, go with quartz. Just a heads-up: because they get so hot, you need to make sure your cooling fans are actually doing their job. If the air around the tube gets too stagnant and hot, the quartz can stress out and crack. Carbon fiber is your best bet for steady-state heating. It’s much safer when you can’t risk creating hot spots on whatever you’re working on.
