
Why we went with the M-Shape for our Carbon Fiber IR Lamps
Standard straight filaments are fine for some jobs, but they just can’t handle the heavy lifting when you need serious heat density. That’s why we designed these carbon fiber lamps in an “M” shape. Basically, we folded the filament. By doing that, we crammed more radiating surface area into a smaller space. It lets the lamp push out 1300W of power without risking a meltdown of the quartz glass. The nitty-gritty on power We set these at 235V to fit right into specific industrial grids and OEM setups. Since they run at 1300W, you’re getting shortwave infrared radiation. The big win here? Speed. This wavelength sinks into materials way faster than the longwave stuff. You don’t have to sit around waiting for things to warm up. Plus, that M-shape spreads the heat out. You won’t get those annoying “hot spots” that usually happen with a single-line filament. Carbon fiber vs. Tungsten We chose carbon fiber for a simple reason: it doesn’t freak out when the temperature swings. Tungsten tends to snap when you power it on and off quickly. Carbon fiber just handles it. We wrap it all in clear quartz glass so the energy passes straight through. The goal is to get the heat onto your workpiece, not trapped in the lamp housing. And as a nice bonus, carbon filaments don’t have that blinding glare you get with halogen lamps, which makes life a lot easier for the people actually operating the machinery. A few things to keep in mind These are designed to be drop-in replacements, so they should fit your existing systems easily. Just double-check that your controllers can handle the initial inrush current that comes with carbon fiber. One last thing—and this is important. Because of that M-shape, there’s more pressure inside the tube.Keep the glass spotless. If you get oil or fingerprints on the quartz, it creates a tiny point of thermal stress. That’s how you get a premature burnout or a cracked tube. Keep it clean, and these things will last.
